Vladimir Kulenovic (Solti, ’15) has his hands full with posts at the Lake Forest Symphony Orchestra and the Belgrade Philharmonic. But that’s not stopping him from expanding his presence in Illinois by applying to the music director position at the Illinois Symphony Orchestra in Bloomington.
His first trial is on Friday, October 14, where he’ll conduct the ensemble in Shostakovich’s October: Symphonic Poem for Orchestra, Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances. He’ll repeat the performance on Saturday.
The Pantagraph offers a sharp profile of Kulenovic in anticipation of the performances, citing his parents passion for music and his childhood in war-torn Yugoslavia, as well as his extensive career in positions with the Utah Opera, the English National Opera, and the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
