Cristian Macelaru debuts for the Philadelphia Orchestra

Cristian Macelaru
After several great achievements and a little serendipity, Cristian Macelaru conducted his first official subscription series for the Philadelphia Orchestra in March, 2014.

Cristian Macelaru is no stranger to the major conductors podiums around the United States, but 2014 has been a year of ascension for the 33-year-old Romanian-born conductor.

Macelaru’s stepped in for conductors who’ve fallen ill or had family emergencies, but it is this year that has allowed him to take the baton in an official capacity, debuting in venues like Carnegie Hall February and leading his first subscription series with the Philadelphia Orchestra in March.

Macelaru had a chance to speak with Jim Cotter, from Philadelphia’s WRTI before his subscription series kicked off. Listen to the story here.
