Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra names Kirov music director

Stilian Kirov (CAA, ’16) has been named music director of Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra.

According to Chicago Classical Review, Kirov was one of five finalists who guest conducted the orchestra as a part of its search. His January performance included works by Rachmaninoff, Ligeti and Kodaly.

Kirov is also the music director at Symphony in C in New Jersey and the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra. He will serve the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra post through the 2019-2020 season.

The Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra opens its 40th season October 14 at Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Il. Kirov will lead a program that includes the Beethoven “Triple” Concerto and Mendelssohn’s “Reformation” Symphony.
