John Devlin Named Music Director of Lancaster Festival Orchestra

The Lancaster Festival in Ohio has appointed John Devlin as music director of its orchestra. He will work with festival board members and staff to plan and conduct the 2025 Lancaster Festival. He was selected by a committee comprised of members of the Board of Directors and musicians from the Lancaster Festival Orchestra. Devlin is currently in his sixth season as music director of the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra in West Virginia. Previous conducting engagements have included performances with the National Symphony Orchestra, Utah Symphony, Louisville Orchestra, Sarasota Orchestra, Colorado Springs Philharmonic, Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra, Columbus Symphony, Omaha Symphony, Princeton Symphony Orchestra, Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, Greenville Symphony Orchestra, Allentown Symphony Orchestra, Alexandria Symphony Orchestra, Wintergreen Festival Orchestra, and Elgin Symphony Orchestra. He received the 2023 Georg Solti Foundation Career Assistance Award. Devlin earned master’s and doctoral degrees in orchestral conducting at the University of Maryland School of Music. As an undergraduate student, Devlin attended Emory University as a Robert W. Woodruff Scholar, with a double major in Clarinet Performance and Latin. He was previously a member of the New York Youth Symphony, at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, and at the Pierre Monteux School.
